Lovebirds are quiet easy birds to feed. They don't need any hard to come by food or really expensive food in order to maintain good peak health or breeding condition. But lovebirds like all birds need a varied diet. Not just seed and water but fresh vegetables and fruits as well everyday to provide all sorts of vitamins and minerals. But first consider feeding utensils.
Feeding Utensils
Lovebirds are not bothered what sort of containers the food and waters in as long as they get it supplied. Therefore it is up to your convenience and opinion to what style is preferred. Personally I prefer the stainless steel coop cup style as it has a big open top ideal for seed and the bowl is easy to disconnect from its frame which is attached to the aviary wire. Also they are easy to clean as they have no hard to get areas.
Seed
Lovebirds require a good quality seed mixture to maintain good health. I recommend to buy it by the sack full if you have lovebirds on an aviary basis as it will work out cheaper and than by a bit each week. The best place to by lovebird seed from is either Haiths bird seed or Jolleys pet superstore.
They both have really good quality seeds. Some seeds are not in the seed mixtures so you would probably have to them separately. Millet sprays are enjoyed all the time and should be offered regularly as a treat.
Fruit & Vegetables
Lovebirds also need fruit & vegetables to supply them with vitamins and minerals what seeds can't. They need a fresh supply everyday to keep them in good condition and good health. Feed them: *Sweet Apples *Grapes *Carrots *Oranges *Melon *Pears *Blackberries *Strawberries *Apricots *Kiwis *Pineapples *Pomegranates *Cabbage *Spinach *Celery *Brussels *Lettuce * Cress *Water Cress
*Spinach Beet
*Figs

Avoid Feeding Lovebirds:
Avocado Citrus Fruits Greasy Foods Salty Foods
Cuttlebone
Vitamins And Minerals
Grits such as crushed eggshell, crushed oyster should be available at all times.Go to my diet II page to see some of the different grits. So should cuttlefish bone. I sprinkle vitamins and minerals powder over the seed every day and this can be brought from any vets or pet shop. But most vitamins and minerals come from most of the fruits and vegetables anyway. New Page 1 This is mineralised grit.
Breeding Diet
I feed my lovebirds seed mix and fruit and vegetables as usual with loads of fresh water and cuttlefish bone (calcium). When the eggs hatch offer white bread with crusts cut off and soaked in milk. Also I feed my bird EMP egg food.
This is rearing and conditioning food.
Also offer grit daily, which helps mash up the food in the parents gizzard, which is then fed to the chicks.
This EMP egg food.
